Simon's Giving Garden

Simon L. Baker had a contagious smile, kind heart, and loved spending time with his family, friends, and dog, Harrison. His passions included: playing baseball, and basketball, photography, art, and the beach. He attended Jupiter High School, where he excelled academically.

His adoring parents, Chris and Debby, and loving brother, Sam wish to honor Simon's memory at The Edna W. Runner Tutorial Center by creating a living garden, named Simon's Giving Garden, in honor of Simon's immense generosity and the value he placed upon being a fun-loving and compassionate friend.  This very special garden will include pollinator plants for butterflies and areas where students can reflect and grow.

We thank you for creating opportunities for our community to enjoy the benefits of gardening.

Simon's Giving Garden was carefully designed to include perennial plants, butterfly plants, and raised beds for wellness education. Features include an anti-bullying bench, pergola, and outdoor classroom area. An automated watering system will support healthy plant growth. Raised beds will be ADA accessible.  Students will also be able to create personal gardens to bring home and share with their community.

Simon created a beautiful sea turtle mosaic. The design he created will be replicated and installed next to the anti-bullying bench in the garden.

A pergola will provide an area for climbing vines and provide shade for students to enjoy the quiet sitting area which also holds the anti-bullying bench. Water features will be a part of the automated watering system and provide a relaxing and quiet area for reflection, conflict resolution, and building friendships.
